October 2024 Newsletter
Welcome beautiful being and thank you for joining me on this new venture. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Denielle. And boy have I been through the ringer when it came to women’s health. Before I offer you some of my juicy self-care practices, maybe we should start at the beginning, well my beginning.
In 2009, after being on birth control consistently since 1999, I was having horrible pain in my abdomen. I had gone to several doctors and several emergency rooms with them all telling me I was constipated, had an STD or there was just nothing wrong. I was baffled. There was no medical reason for my pain? I was not constipated; I did not have an STD and there was definitely something wrong! Finally, after laying on the couch in such horrible pain that I could not even get up, I was speaking to a friend who told me her pain was so bad that if she had a gun, she would have shot herself to end the pain. Awful, I know, the only thing is, I felt the same way. So off to one more ER, I went. There, I was “lucky” enough to be diagnosed with endometriosis. I was shuttled into surgery where the surgeon was able to ablate the endometriosis. What is endometriosis, you ask? It is when normal endometrial tissue grows where it does not belong. It can literally grow anywhere. Even in your brain. Ablation surgery is where they burn the endometriosis from where it doesn't belong.
This diagnosis started me down a spiral of medical trauma. You would think after my diagnosis and surgery all better, right, wrong. Yes, I did feel better for some time after my surgery. But once my periods came back the pain was back with a vengeance. The gynecologists all recommended staying on birth control to help control the pain. Basically, for life. The birth control helped with the pain but I stopped having a period. Which I am sure you can imagine is not good for you.
Since then, I have been down a huge rabbit hole with endometriosis, doctors, surgeries and birth control. I wish I knew then, what I feel is my truth, now, I had the means to heal myself all along. After my 3rd surgery, they recommended I stay on birth control. I didn't, I quit that like the bad habit it was. (No judgement if you choose to take birth control, I just realized it wasn't for me.) I was still in pain everyday despite having endometriosis removed from 7 places in my body, by what the doctors call the gold standard for endometrioses. I decided to heal myself. Women have been misdiagnosed and discredited for their pain for thousands of years. There is even a name for it, hysteria.
Since 2022, I have been on a self-healing journey. I have done so much research and many programs. I am definitely not an expert. Nor am I a doctor, but I have also not had an endometriosis flare since the winter solstice of 2023 and I no longer have chronic endometriosis pain. I tell you all this to say. I don't want anyone else to go through what I have gone through. If I can teach others what I have learned and it gives them just a few extra pain free days out of the year, that is what I am here for. Your pain doesn't have to be from endometriosis, it can be some other misdiagnosed or undiagnosed problem for that matter. Women are misdiagnosed more than men and some studies show up to 57% of women have been misdiagnosed. I do not tell you all this to start a rally of women against the medical system. I just want you to advocate for yourself and also to know that there are other options out there. This is my story; I am sure there are thousands of women out there with stories like mine, maybe even yours. That is why I offer these practices to help others feel better. I am not saying you should not go to doctors, or not listen to your doctors' recommendations, just that while doing what the doctor recommends maybe check out some alternative options.
Self-care is not selfish

I also am a level 2 Reiki practitioner and offer Reiki healing. By the 2nd week of October, I will have received my 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate. I also have some other projects in the works so look out for the November newsletter to see what other offerings there will be.
I also would love to offer you some book recommendations that I found both helpful and, to be quite honest, disturbing. These are recommendations on women's health.
Book 1: Unwell Women: Misdiagnosis and Myth in a Man-Made World by Elinor Cleghorn
Book 2: In the FLO: Unlock your Hormonal Advantage and Revolutionize Your Life by Alisa Vitti. (I haven’t read this one yet, it is on my list, and it comes highly recommended by my Pelvic Steam Practitioner, which on a separate note, I highly recommend, if you have a yoni. Her name is Nala Sudo. Her IG is @womb.and.wildflowers. Always seek a qualified practitioner before steaming.)
Thank you for checking out my new business venture. I am very excited to see you at one or more of these offerings.
See you next month,
Denielle Arm
